“Rathaus in C” was a musical performance that took place on the evening of March 7, 2025 at the Rathaus für Kultur as part of the celebration of our sixth anniversary. It was a participatory project that brought together amateur musicians from the region and members of two established ensembles. The fixed groups were ENSEMBLE 25(directed by Hermann Ostendarp) and the percussion ensemble BattiTutti (directed by Martin Flüge).

Through a public call, we were able to recruit a total of 30 musicians from the region for the performance.

With “Rathaus in C” we realized our own version of the composition “In C” by the American composer Terry Riley, written in 1964. The piece was performed by musicians spread throughout the Rathaus für Kultur: in the stairwell, the offices, and the project rooms. The audience was free to move around. In this way, we invited our visitors to approach the individual groups of instruments and to experience the Rathaus für Kultur from an entirely new perspective, one that constantly shifted with the sound.

It was therefore a “walk-through concert”, which lasted about 30–45 minutes.
